RECRUITING NEW TRUSTEES
1. Bring possible candidates into the library for a tour and briefing.
2. Use the Massachusetts Library Trustees Handbook
3. The current board should discuss potential members (the board should reflect the whole community, not just one select age, sex, educational, or economic level), and consider:
diversity within the community
types of professions (are there specific needs, such as legal or financial?)
drawing from:
Friends group
Library users
4. Active recruiting by the board:
Run ads in local newspapers/TV
Job description available at the library and town hall
Outline the time and energy commitment
5. Educate the appointing authority or appointed boards about libraries and library trends
6. Have available an outline of roles of Board/Director/Friends
